Introducing the OSCRs: A New Way to Highlight Open Source Contributors
We're excited to introduce OSCR (Open Source Contributor Rating), a new metric designed to provide deeper insights into the impact, influence, and quality of open source contributions. As the open source ecosystem continues to grow, we believe we need to have more nuanced ways of understanding and recognizing contributor efforts.
What is the OSCR?
The OSCR is a comprehensive rating system that aims to provide a fuller picture of a contributor's impact in the open source ecosystem. The OSCR evaluates the engagement and impact of contributors, is calculated on a rolling 90-day basis, and looks at all of a contributors open source contributions. This means the score (out of 300) reflects recent activity and engagement, providing a current snapshot of a contributor's involvement rather than a lifetime aggregate.
Why OSCR Matters
The OSCR aims to:
- Provide more meaningful recognition for contributors
- Help maintainers identify valuable community members
- Assist in connecting skilled open source contributors
- Encourage high-quality contributions to open source projects
- Help open source contributors track their impact and growth
